Montpelier Primary School

Young Carers

Here at Montpelier we recognise and support our children across all year groups who are Young Carers.

We meet weekly on a Wednesday where the children have time to relax and eat lunch together, alongside fun activities and outings.

We also hold family events throughout the year.

Our Young Carer team is led by Mrs Rosevear, Mrs Atkin, Mr St John, Mrs Elliott and Miss Gilbert and they would be delighted to talk to you more should you feel your child is a young carer.

What is a Young Carer:

A young carer is someone under 18 who helps look after someone in their family or a friend, unpaid, who is ill, disabled or misuses drugs or alcohol. They can be siblings, sons and daughters, grandchildren, very young, not living with the person they care for or looking after more than one person.

What could their caring role involve?

If you are a young carer, you probably look after one of your parents or care for a sibling. You may do extra jobs in and around the home, such as cooking, cleaning or helping someone get dressed and move around. You may also give a lot of physical help to a parent or sibling who is disabled or ill. Along with doing things to help your siblings, you may give them and your parents emotional support too.

The Young Carers worked with Mrs Massey to design their own logo. The logo has been made into badges for all the Young Carers to wear with pride.
