Montpelier Primary School

Ofsted

At our last Ofsted inspection in November 2024 the inspection team highlighted our school's numerous strengths and successes, acknowledging its commitment to maintaining a good educational experience for its pupils. We are so proud of the report. Here are some of the highlights:

Montpelier Primary School’s innovative approach to education ensures that pupils and their families thrive. Adapted spaces such as ‘The Treehouse,’ ‘The Den,’ and ‘Champions’ Corner’ provide tailored support for pupils facing social, emotional, and academic challenges.

The school’s core values of curiosity, creativity, and confidence are evident throughout its curriculum and extracurricular offerings. Pupils have opportunities to explore musical instruments, participate in the school choir, and engage in exciting artistic projects.

Children in the early years demonstrate confidence, independence, and resilience as they engage with their learning. As pupils progress, they develop ‘self-help’ strategies to tackle challenges and actively contribute their views. These experiences prepare them for a smooth transition to secondary school and instil a strong sense of self-esteem.

The school’s curriculum is both broad and engaging, reflecting local history and incorporating places of interest. Structured routines and high expectations in the classroom foster responsibility, focus, enthusiasm, and academic success.

Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) benefit from a highly inclusive environment. Learning is tailored to meet their individual needs, enabling them to access the same rich curriculum as their peers.

Montpelier Primary School’s emphasis on positive learning behaviours and respect is reflected in its harmonious school environment. Pupils’ conduct is exemplary, supported by the school’s ‘Golden Learning Behaviours’ program and roles such as mediators, which foster a strong sense of community. High attendance rates underscore pupils’ love for school.

Aaron West, Headteacher, says: “The external validation of our efforts is deeply encouraging and is a testament to the commitment of everyone involved in the school. The Ofsted report is a wonderful reflection of our progress and the positive environment we continue to nurture at Montpelier. I take great pride when reading the report and am proud of the team I am privileged to lead. This is a moment to celebrate, but it is also a reminder that we will continue to work together to meet the needs of our children.”

Liz Easaw, Director of Primary Education at GLT, says: “It is a delight to see Montpelier going from strength to strength. The strong relationships and belonging our staff and families share ensure children thrive. We are encouraged by the recognition of all the hard work and deep commitment that drives improvement.”
